(Author developed based on Higgs,
2003)
According to Higgs (2003) stating, emotional intelligence
have three broad areas such as,
1.
The Ability view
2.
The competence view
3.
The personal factors view
The third point is included with,
self-awareness, emotional resilience, motivation, interpersonal sensivity,
influence, intuitiveness and conscientiousness which are same as the elements
in the leadership model introduced by Higgs. It can be clearly identified from
the below shown in below figure which is a revised emerging model of effective
leadership.
Figure 2-Emerging model
of effective leadership
Higgs (2003) stated that the emotional
intelligence is strongly liked with leadership. According to a study done by
Higgs and Dulewicz in 2000 on the differences in between the emotional
intelligence competencies of Chairman/CEO, executive directors, and managers
as shown below in the below figure , higher levels of emotional intelligence are
achieved by the people who are on the top of the hierarchies. Which can be
identified that, to be an effective leader, must have a good rate of emotional
intelligence.
